A Little About Me

My name is Jovan Lacet. I live at 30 Cedar St in Mattapan. My wife Chandra Joseph-Lacet, of twenty-one years, and I have lived on Cedar Street since 2000. Chandra and I have two daughters, Maya and Imani, both Boston Public School students (one graduated and in college). I am a United States Marine Corps Veteran and former Boston Police Officer. I have been a practicing attorney for twenty-three years.

I am running for State Representative of the 12th Suffolk District on September 1, 2020 to address the disparities and inequities in the 12th Suffolk District and to give a much needed voice and new energetic leadership. The people of the 12th Suffolk District, which includes the communities of Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park, and Milton, need responsive and engaged leadership, especially during this unprecedented crisis of Covid-19.

Why I'm Running

The Covid-19 Pandemic has inflicted suffering and loss of life around the world, throughout our country and city. It has disproportionately impacted people and communities of color and the elderly. The realities of the existing disparities and inequities in health care, small businesses, employment, wealth, educational opportunity, and the digital divide have been laid bare for all to see due to our own experiences and the constant media reporting on the coronavirus crisis. Those disparities are broadening daily. Now is the opportune time for the leadership that I can bring to the district, one that will forge new ideas and strategies, and build a more just and equitable Commonwealth.

I will address the major issues of education, employment, housing, economic development, and infrastructure improvements. Additionally, I will focus my attention on the quality of life issues that impact our lives daily, creating innovative legislation and strategies to resolve them. I will also initiate and work to enforce legislation that addresses public transportation, economic, environmental, social and criminal justice disparities.

My Vision

The 12th Suffolk District is one the most racially, economically, and culturally diverse legislative districts in all of the Commonwealth. Utilizing our diversity to solve common problems and generate a unity with purpose, it’s the only way we can grow together and live in harmony.
